Barry is a U.S. military veteran who was severely injured in combat during service to a grateful nation. He receives disability benefits because of his sacrifice, and at one of A Place to Stay’s Supportive Outreach Services events, he discovered that we have a broad selection of other services to help ease his struggle. Disability alone didn’t cover all of his living expenses, and this wonderful individual, who surrendered literal parts of himself while serving our country, had taken to sleeping in his car. Thanks to APTS’s Care Coordination, we were able to complete a needs assessment, identify partners in the community who could assist Barry with stable housing, and help him get on his feet. Today, Barry is gainfully employed, and the income from a job alongside his disability check means he’s found shelter in his own apartment.
